Episode 4 – June 27, 2010 – Next Food Network Star
Episode 4 was a real nail-biter and tear jerker as favorites struggled and strugglers succeeded. The final nine contestants opened with their ON CAMERA CHALLENGE: Deliver the spice! Bobby Flay challenged the contestants to utilize one of his favorite ingredients, chili peppers, in a dish to be featured on his menu at Mesa Grill. Brianna took home the prize with her chili chicken kabob in creamy goat cheese. Herb’s dish failed to wow the judges, shaking his nerves for the remainder of the episode.
Next, the STAR CHALLENGE: Impress the professional chefs! The contestants were divided into three groups of three, competing amongst themselves to reinvent a famous chef’s favorite dish. Herb, Tom and Aarti are assigned Jonathan Waxman, a mentor of Bobby Flay, whose favorite dish was lamb and potatoes. Meanwhile, Brad, Serena and Brianna work to impress Susan Feniger with fried chicken with an iceberg lettuce and homemade salad dressing. Chef Eric Greenspan’s favorite, macaroni and cheese and steak, was reinvented by Aria, Paul, and Das. Herb’s dish was panned by judges, landing him in the bottom three with Serena and Das but ultimately, his winning personality saved him and Das was sent home. The next episode airs June 11th and takes place on lunch trucks with Paula Deen! Make sure to tune in!
