Episode 2 – June 13, 2010 – Next Food Network Star
Episode two opened with the remaining eleven contestants demonstrating their TV cooking skills by preparing a vegetable lasagna on camera. Each contestant was given one task and one minute to complete it while showcasing their on-camera personality. Herb Mesa had judge Giada De Laurentiis laughing at his jokes while topping the lasagna with cheese. Next, the finalists walked into a room filled with sweet treats and a fortune telling machine; this week’s Star Challenge!
Special guest star Duff Goldman from “Ace of Cakes” presented their next challenge: He was throwing a party on the Santa Monica Pier for 100 of his closest friends, which the finalists were to cater. They each received a different classic carnival sweet from the fortune telling machine and were instructed to transform it into a savory party bite for the guest of honor and his friends. Herb wowed the judges with his smoked salmon “lollypop” roulade made healthy with low fat cream cheese, but Aarti was selected as the winner for her Tandoori BBQ chicken and scallion ricotta pancake. Doreen’s root beer pulled pork dish was unsuccessful and she was eliminated.
